The Newspaper

Each era has its own paper, printed on its own schedule from real headlines of that week, with a rumour about you.

Every era has its own source of news, appearing on that era's schedule:

  • Rome: the Acta Diurna, posted in the Forum every eighth day (market day).
  • London, 1348: proclamations read from the pulpit at St Paul's Cross after Sunday service.
  • Paris, 1793: Le Père Duchesne on Sundays, until the Revolutionary calendar replaces Sunday with a rest day every tenth day.
  • 1917: a paper for your front, such as The Wipers Times in the trenches or a Petrograd daily during the Revolution.

What's in it

  • Real history: headlines drawn from what actually happened that week, in that year.
  • The weather, as people of the time would describe it.
  • A local rumour about you, based on what you've been up to.

Reading it

A message appears when a new edition comes out. Open it from the newspaper icon or the Comms desk; older editions stay in the archive. If your character dies, the paper may run your obituary. See Death & Obituaries.
