The Ledger: Your Condition

The Ledger tracks your condition, clothing, money, standing and goals, and tells the narrator how the world treats you.

On the left of the screen, My Affairs shows the Ledger. It is the game's record of you, and it decides how the world treats you.

  • Condition: your physical and mental state, including specific injuries. "Starving" or "broken ribs" makes physical actions harder.
  • Core attributes: Vitality, Stress and Renown. See Vitality, Stress & Renown.
  • Attire: what you're wearing, which affects how people see you.
  • Money and social standing: what you can afford and who will listen to you.
  • Environment: where exactly you are and the ways out. See Where You Are: Locations & Exits.
  • Inventory and goals: see Inventory & Hidden Items and Goals.

Why it never forgets

The Ledger is kept in a database, not just in the conversation, and the narrator is given it before every reply. If you broke your ribs on turn 20, they still hurt on turn 50: try to climb a wall and you'll fail. The Ledger changes only when the story does. If you lose your purse in the narrative, the money is gone.
